Nice episode - it seemed to really move things along nicely without having anything huge happen. Sometimes those are the best episodes because it is like a real daytime drama. Not every episode has to be huge or epic. I like this episode for that reason.
I loved Helen interacting with Megan. You've been pushing this for awhile now with Helen wanting to be more involved in her grand daughter's life. It was a riot watching Megan tell her how she should be raised instead of Helen just knowing what to do and how to do it. I'm so curious to see if and what comes of this meeting that Helen was rushing too and forgetting Megan. Did she take Meg to the meeting? How will Kirsten react to knowing that her mother put work before babysitting? Some great scenes can follow from this.
Amanda going out in her underwear practically? WTF? What is she - a hooker? Her scenes with Ryan were fun though. Such sexual tension. Poor Natalie has no idea what she's getting herself into with Ryan now. He's done such a 180 since he's been back in town. Oliver is another interesting fellow. I'm not sure I really get his entire motive yet.
I loved Penelope in the episode. Her talk with Bently was the funniest thing I've read in a long time. She was so open about things ... it was refreshing but for someone her age, it was pretty funny. She's very unique, that's for sure!
Great read Michael! I'm looking forward to the next,
Dallas

I've always loved how daytime was able to put in episodes that just had the family and characters just being. I watch TV shows or even movies and sometimes I get so upset because they don't have the characters just take everything in. On Concrete Shelves is ultimately about families just living and I want to portray that in the best way that I know how to.
Helen has no idea how to raise children, although she has three grown children now. She has always been about herself and how powerful she can be, even she has things she's not good at, babysitting is one of them. I wanted to show Megan as an actual character and not the background child you see getting passed around every now and then. Her interactions with Helen and further down the line will show the personality she is creating for herself. The fact that she is very aware of everything around her also gives her the ability to see through Helen's bullshit.
There's a lot about Amanda that people don't know. Although she isn't a main character and there's not much plans to further her completely. Amanda being in different orbits is definitely in the mix. I like to create different types of characters in the Stone Creek universe that interact with the main characters. More will be revealed about her, but only to further other people's storylines. Ryan is becoming a character who is indeed completely different than his old self. Such as in real life, there are many different types of people and spinning Ryan in this way is definitely putting a bigger splash on the canvas. There will be more for him as the season goes on and season three starts.
I modelled Penelope after my grandmother on my father's side, actually. My grandmother does not have a filter and it effects everyone in good and bad ways. But to her credit, she says it like it is and you have to love her for her honesty because in the end she is only looking out for your best interests. Still, Penelope, just like my grandmother is very unique, honest and golden hearted. In season three there will be more room for Penelope. Look for a change in her life that could go either way!
Glad you read the episode Dallas, I always look forward to your reviews. Thanks, Mykeee[:
